Ukrainian President Calls for European Union to Employ Frozen Russian Funds for Ukrainian Defense Support
Amid continuing conference negotiations, Ukrainian President has urged European Union officials to implement plans employing frozen Russian funds to support Ukraine's defence efforts "as soon as possible".
Immediate Action Needed
Addressing EU officials in Brussels on the summit day, the Ukrainian leader highlighted the crucial requirement to entirely use Russia's assets for his country's protection against continuing hostilities.
"Whoever postpones this resolution is not only limiting our military but also impeding your own advancement," he stated, vowing that Ukraine would spend substantial money in buying European military equipment.
EU Funding Plan
European Union leaders are currently discussing initiatives to finance an interest-free financial package for the country backed by Russia's central bank funds, which were immobilized shortly after the full-scale invasion.
European officials has proposed a โฌ140 billion interest-free package, with possible mandates to draft comprehensive juridical frameworks intending to conclude the initiative by the end of the year.
International Reactions
The Kremlin has labeled the proposal as "appropriation" and has pledged to pursue any persons or countries judged to have appropriated Russian money.
Belgium, which holds โฌ183 billion at the financial institution, accounting for eighty-six percent of all Russia's government assets within the European Union, has raised reservations about the initiative.
"When you want to move forward, we will have to move as one," declared Belgian Prime Minister, emphasizing the requirement for guarantees that all member states would share the costs if Russia attempted to reclaim its assets.

About one-third of Russia's government resources are located outside the EU, including in the Asian nation (โฌ28 billion), the Britain (โฌ27 billion), Canada (โฌ15 billion) and the America (4 billion euros).

Despite continuing wrangling over the financial assistance, various leaders demonstrated assurance in reaching an accord.
"During these discussions we will establish the political resolution to secure the economic requirements of the Ukrainian people from the near future," declared a leading EU leader, describing the remaining work as "procedural matters".
Latvia's official commented that an consensus on the assistance would empower Zelenskyy in any future negotiation negotiations.
Diplomatic Considerations
Ukrainian authorities has downplayed information of a comprehensive resolution initiative that appeared previously, suggesting it was the work of "certain allies" seeking to pre-empt "some plan from Russia".
